Centre may consult all political parties on Telangana

With the Telangana imbroglio continuing to defy all attempts at resolution, Centre seems to be considering the option of holding consultations with all political parties. There are indications an announcement may be made later this week, though it is not clear whether the exercise will take the shape of an all-party meeting or separate interactions with them. The move for wider political consultations comes at a time when passions on rival sides of the issue of whether Telangana should become a separate state has pushed the Centre in a wrenching dilemma. Its attempt to buy peace with the duelling sides without annoying either has come to nought. The move to pit the Telangana votaries against the larger political class can be seen as an exercise to impress upon Telangana partisans the difficulties involved in the partition of Andhra Pradesh.
